Pathogen: Pasteurella multocida Capsular Typing (A,B)
Description
Pasteurella multocida is a Gram-negative bacterium associated with a wide range of diseases in animals, including respiratory infections, septicemia and atrophic rhinitis, with significant impact in livestock and companion animals.
Capsular typing is important for epidemiological studies and understanding strain distribution, as different capsular types are associated with variations in virulence and host specificity.
Conventional methods for capsular typing are laborious and time-consuming. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of capsular type–associated genes directly from clinical samples.
This assay allows identification of specific capsular types of P. multocida and should be used in combination with other capsular typing assays to enable comprehensive characterization of circulating strains.
