Therefore, every livestock specie is susceptible to suffer from colibacilosis which is a disease with diverse potential occurrences such as enteritis, enterotoxemia, neonatal colibacilosis, post weaning colibacilosis, edema disease, septicemia, etc…
Identification of the virulent strains to be distinguished from the normal gut flora has relied on phenotypic methods so far. However, the recent development of qPCR techniques enables their quick and accurate characterization. Thus, useful information regarding the presence of particular virulence factors and their quantification shall be interpreted to come to a clinical conclusion.
