Description

Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus of the family Rhabdoviridae that infects a wide range of marine and freshwater fish species.
It is the etiological agent of viral hemorrhagic septicemia, a highly contagious disease characterized by hemorrhages, anemia and high mortality, particularly in farmed fish. The infection has a significant economic impact in aquaculture due to rapid spread and severe losses.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation can be time-consuming and require specialized facilities. Real-time RT-PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of VHSV RNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
