Description

Trichuris suis is a parasitic nematode that inhabits the large intestine of pigs, where it is widely distributed in swine production systems.
Infection causes trichuriasis, characterized by diarrhea, weight loss and reduced growth performance, particularly in young animals or under high parasite burdens. It can contribute to significant productivity losses in affected herds.
Conventional detection methods based on microscopic identification of eggs may have limited sensitivity, especially in early infection stages. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of T. suis DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
