Description

Tenacibaculum maritimum is a Gram-negative filamentous bacterium widely distributed in marine environments and an important pathogen of farmed and wild fish species.
It is the etiological agent of tenacibaculosis, a disease characterized by skin lesions, fin erosion and ulceration, which can progress to systemic infection and high mortality. The disease has a significant economic impact in aquaculture due to reduced growth and increased losses.
Conventional detection based on culture may be slow and affected by environmental conditions. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of T. maritimum DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
