Description

Clostridioides difficile is an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium capable of producing several toxins, including toxin A (TcdA), a major virulence factor involved in intestinal damage.
Toxin A contributes to the pathogenesis of enteric disease by disrupting intestinal epithelial cells and inducing inflammation, leading to diarrhea and colitis in various animal species. Infections can result in significant clinical impact, particularly in young or stressed animals.
Conventional diagnostic methods based on culture or toxin detection may lack sensitivity or require time-consuming procedures. Real-time PCR enables rapid and specific detection of the gene encoding toxin A, allowing accurate identification of toxigenic strains directly from clinical samples.
