Pathogen: Salmonella infantis
Description
Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis is a Gram-negative bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae, commonly associated with poultry and widely distributed in animal production systems.
It is linked to enteric and systemic infections in birds, often causing diarrhea, reduced growth performance and decreased productivity. Infected flocks may act as reservoirs, facilitating persistence and spread, and it has notable zoonotic relevance as a foodborne pathogen.
Conventional detection methods based on culture are time-consuming and require confirmatory steps. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of S. Infantis DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
