EXOone Staphylococcus hyicus

Description

Staphylococcus hyicus is a Gram-positive bacterium commonly found on the skin and mucous membranes of pigs, where it can act as an opportunistic pathogen.
It is the primary etiological agent of exudative epidermitis (greasy pig disease), characterized by skin lesions, exudation and dehydration, particularly in young animals. The infection leads to reduced growth, increased mortality and economic losses in swine production.
Conventional identification based on culture may be time-consuming and sometimes inconclusive. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of S. hyicus DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
