Pathogen: Staphylococcus epidermidis
Description
The most commonly isolated Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) species in persistent subclinical in goats and sheep is Staphylococcus epidermidis. Although less pathogenic than S. aureus, S. epidermidis can also produce important economic losses. Nevertheless, despite this accepted role in small ruminants its pathogenicity might vary widely. S. epidermidis is among the most prevalent causal microorganisms in goats and ewes and qPCR should be an important tool for its control due to its sentivity and ability for quantifying.
