Description

Staphylococcus aureus is an ubiquitous bacterium considered part of the usual microbiota. Nevertheless, in some cases, S. aureus can cause severe illness considering its toxins, adhesive factors, resistance mechanisms to antibiotics, etc… Different processes can affect to animals, however, mastitis is one the most important due to its economic impact. Infected cows could remain as asymptomatic and spread the agent among the herd. A new concern is arising and high sensitive techniques are demanded to detect and control this disease. qPCR is a useful tool which can provide detailed information about the status of the animals and the farm.
