Pathogen: Streptococcus agalactiae
Description
Streptococcus agalactiae is a contagious pathogen described as one of the frequent microbes which cause mastitis in cattle and small ruminant. Its infection is usually subclinical therefore clinical signs are occasionally observed. However, milk production and quality drops are widely described so the control and eradication of this pathogen is effective in economic terms.
Moreover, many herds aim is the eradication of this agent and once accomplished they need to keep that status. Molecular techniques like qPCR allows the health technicians a sensitive and rapid analysis of a large number of specimens to detect which animals are infected and avoid the transmission within the group.
