Pathogen: Porcine Teschovirus
Description
Porcine teschovirus (PTV) is a non-enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus of the family Picornaviridae that infects domestic pigs worldwide.
It is associated with neurological disease, including Teschen/Talfan disease, characterized by ataxia, paralysis and, in severe cases, high mortality. Infections may vary from subclinical to severe, impacting animal health and productivity.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation can be time-consuming and may lack sensitivity. Real-time RT-PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of PTV RNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
