EXOone Pasteurella multocida toxA gene

Description

Pasteurella multocida is part of the flora in the upper respiratory tract of pigs. Nevertheless, some strains are capable to synthesize a toxin encoded by chromosomal toxA gene. Toxigenic strains of P. multocida causes progressive atrophic rhinitis inducing turbinate atrophy and poor weight gains in pigs.
Culture isolation, species identification, and toxin testing of P. multocida is time-consuming, costly and might give false negative results. Molecular techniques like qPCR provides a rapid and sensitive tool for accurate detection of those specific strains which contains the gene encoding the toxine.
