Description

Pasteurella multocida, is the causative agent of multiple different diseases that have great economic impact on animal production, including hemorrhagic septicemia in cattle, atrophic rhinitis in swine and fowl cholera (FC) in domesticated and wild birds. This bacterium is also reported infecting other domestic species such as small ruminants, rabbits, dogs and cats in which although it causes mainly respiratory issues other tissues might be affected.
Conventional methods of isolation and identification of P. multocida might be time consuming. Genotyping methods have been proved as more beneficial than traditional techniques because they allow the detection directly from clinical samples with higher specificity and sensitivity and also ease a later typing of this microorganism.
