Description
Bovine nebovirus (BoNeV) is a non-enveloped single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the family Caliciviridae that infects cattle, particularly neonatal and young calves.
BoNeV has been associated with enteric disease characterized by diarrhea, dehydration and reduced growth performance. It is frequently detected in calves with neonatal diarrhea, often together with other enteric pathogens, contributing to the multifactorial nature of the disease and its economic impact on cattle production.
Conventional detection methods are limited by the difficulty of virus isolation and the frequent occurrence of mixed infections. Real-time RT-PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of BoNeV RNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
