Description

Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) comprises a group of closely related, slow-growing intracellular bacteria, including M. bovis, M. caprae, M. tuberculosis and related species, that infect a wide range of mammals.
These pathogens are responsible for tuberculosis, a chronic disease characterized by granulomatous lesions mainly affecting the respiratory system, but also other organs. In livestock, infection leads to reduced productivity, trade restrictions and significant economic losses, and it represents an important zoonotic risk.
Conventional detection methods such as culture and tuberculin testing may be time-consuming or lack sensitivity in certain stages of infection. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of MTBC DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
