EXOone Mycoplasma hyorhinis

Description

Mycoplasma hyorhinis is often reported as a commensal bacterium in the respiratory tract of pigs and an occasionally causes poliyarthritis and polyserositis in youngers. It is commonly found in diseases such as porcine enzootic pneumonia and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) acting as an exacerbating or facilitating agent. M. hyorhinis can be easily detected by PCR in nasal swabs, tonsil swabs and oral fluids. Moreover, some reports point that high prevalence of this bacterium in nostril of weaning pigs might be correlated to its presence in polyserositis and a increased mortality in nursery.
Culture and Immunoflurorescent Antibody Testing (IFAT) has been broadly used so far. These techniques are complex, time-consuming and their results might be unconclusive. Thus, new molecular tools like qPCR suggest a useful solution which provides a specific and sensitive test.
