EXOone Moraxella bovoculi

Description

Moraxella bovoculi is a Gram-negative bacterium associated with the ocular surface of cattle and commonly found as part of the normal microbiota. Under certain conditions, it may act as an opportunistic pathogen.
It has been linked to infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK), contributing to eye lesions, lacrimation and corneal damage, often in association with other pathogens. The disease impacts animal welfare and productivity in affected herds.
Conventional identification based on culture may be time-consuming and does not always allow clear differentiation between related species. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of M. bovoculi DNA directly from ocular samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
