EXOone Mycobacterium avium complex

Description

Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) comprises a group of closely related environmental mycobacteria, including M. avium subsp. avium, M. avium subsp. hominissuis, M. intracellulare and related species. These slow-growing intracellular bacteria infect a wide range of hosts, including birds, livestock, companion animals and wildlife.
MAC organisms are associated with chronic infections affecting the gastrointestinal tract, lymph nodes, respiratory system and other tissues, depending on the host species and the infecting strain. In livestock and poultry, infection may result in reduced productivity, weight loss and chronic disease, leading to economic impact.
Conventional detection methods such as culture are laborious and require prolonged incubation periods, while species identification may require additional testing. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of MAC DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
