Description

Mannheimia haemolytica is the cause of epizootic pneumonia in cattle known as Shipping Fever. Frequently associated with Pasteurella multocida is usually secondary to viral infections such as PI3V or BHV-1, bacterial infections such as Mycoplasma and environmental stress conforming the bovine respiratory disease. It is considered as an usual nasal bacterium and opportunistic pathogen in cases of inmunosupresion.

M. haemolytica may contribute to Enzootic pneumonia of calves; Enzootic pneumonia of lambs and peritonitis in sheep. It also causes gangrenous mastitis in sheep. It can be found in a wide range of tissues and fluids. Thus, molecular techniques like qPCR allow a sensitive and rapid detection.
