Reference: KPNE
Pathogen: Klebsiella pneumoniae
Description
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative bacterium commonly found in the environment and as part of the normal microbiota of mucosal surfaces, capable of acting as an opportunistic pathogen in animals.
It is associated with infections such as mastitis, respiratory disease and septicemia, particularly in dairy cattle, where it can cause acute and severe clinical presentations leading to reduced milk production and significant economic losses.
Conventional detection methods based on culture may require time and may not provide rapid identification in acute cases. Real-time PCR enables sensitive and specific detection of K. pneumoniae DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
