EXOone Influenza D virus

Description

Influenza D virus (IDV) is an enveloped single-stranded RNA virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae that primarily infects cattle, although infections have also been reported in other domestic and wild mammals.
IDV is mainly associated with bovine respiratory disease and is considered an important contributor to the bovine respiratory disease complex (BRD). Infection may cause coughing, nasal discharge and reduced performance, and co-infections with other respiratory pathogens can increase disease severity and economic losses in cattle production systems.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation may be time-consuming and are not always suitable for routine screening. Real-time RT-PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of IDV RNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
