Description

Infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus of the family Herpesviridae that infects poultry, particularly chickens, and is widely distributed in poultry-producing regions.
It is the causative agent of infectious laryngotracheitis, a contagious respiratory disease characterized by coughing, gasping, nasal discharge and, in severe cases, high mortality. The infection leads to reduced productivity and significant economic losses in affected flocks.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation may be time-consuming or require specialized expertise. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of ILTV DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
