EXOone Fowlpox virus

Description

Fowlpox virus is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the family Poxviridae that infects poultry and other bird species worldwide.
It is the causative agent of fowlpox, a contagious disease presenting cutaneous lesions on non-feathered skin and diphtheritic lesions in the respiratory or digestive tracts. The infection can lead to reduced growth, decreased egg production and increased mortality in affected flocks, causing economic losses.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation or histopathology may be time-consuming or require specialized expertise. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of fowlpox virus DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
