Pathogen: Feline Panleukopenia virus
Description
Feline Panleukopenia virus (FPLV) is a species of parvovirus that can infect all wild and domestic felines. It causes gastrointestinal, immune system, and nervous system disease. Clinical manifestations of FPLV are variable based on the dose of the virus, age, predisposition, maternal immunity or vaccination. Most infections are subclinical but clinical signs which are developed in 4-6 days after exposure consist on anorexia, lehargy, vomiting and profuse watery diarrhea.
Methods for detection of this virus are ELISA, electron mycroscopy, virus isolation and seroconversion. Real Time PCR is a suitable alternative to all these tecniques because of its sensivity, rapidity and specifity.
