EXOone Equine Herpesvirus 2

Description

Equine herpesvirus 2 (EHV-2) is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus of the family Herpesviridae, classified within the gammaherpesviruses, and commonly infects equids worldwide.
It is frequently associated with mild or subclinical infections but has been linked to respiratory disease, conjunctivitis and poor performance, particularly in young horses. The virus can establish latent infections and is often detected in healthy as well as clinically affected animals.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation may be limited by latency and sample conditions. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of EHV-2 DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
