EXOone Enterococcus cecorum

Description

Enterococcus cecorum is a Gram-positive bacterium commonly found in the intestinal microbiota of poultry and other animal species. Although often present as a commensal organism, certain strains can act as opportunistic pathogens, particularly in intensive production systems.
In poultry, E. cecorum has been associated with septicemia, osteomyelitis, spondylitis and enterococcal-associated locomotor disorders, leading to lameness, reduced growth performance and increased mortality. These infections can result in significant economic losses due to decreased productivity and increased condemnation rates.
Conventional detection methods based on culture may require time and additional testing for accurate identification. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of E. cecorum DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
This assay detects Enterococcus cecorum DNA and can be used for the investigation and surveillance of enterococcal infections in poultry populations.
