Pathogen: Campylobacter jejuni
Description
Campylobacter jejuni is an enteric bacterium of wild and domestic animals. It is frequently associated with enteritis in humans and occasionally associated with enteritis in animals. People often acquire campylobacteriosis through the comsumption of undercooked poultry meat contaminated with C. jejuni.
Beside the zoonotic risk of this pathogen, it also affects to our animals causing important economic losses. Ovine campylobacteriosis is caused by Campylobacter fetus fetus and Campylobacter jejuni, both organisms are capable of causing abortion in ewes. This bacteria is uncommonly reported in aborted fetuses of dogs, goats, mink, human and cattle. Moreover, C. jejuni is frequently isolated from cats with diarrhea.
