Description

Canine herpesvirus (CHV-1) is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus of the family Herpesviridae that infects domestic dogs worldwide, primarily targeting the respiratory and reproductive systems.
Infection may cause respiratory signs, reproductive failure and neonatal mortality, particularly in puppies, while adult dogs often develop mild or subclinical infections and act as carriers. The virus can establish latency and reactivate under stress conditions.
Conventional detection methods such as virus isolation may be limited by sample quality and timing. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of CHV-1 DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
