EXOone Clostridium chauvoei

Description

Clostridium chauvoei is an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium widely present in soil and capable of surviving for long periods in the environment as spores.
It is the etiological agent of blackleg, a highly fatal disease in cattle and small ruminants characterized by sudden onset, muscle necrosis, gas formation and toxemia, leading to rapid death. The disease causes significant economic losses due to sudden mortality in affected herds.
Conventional detection based on culture may be limited by strict anaerobic requirements and post-mortem sample quality. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of C. chauvoei DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
