Pathogen: Canine Adenovirus type 2
Description
Canine adenovirus type 2 (CAdV-2) is a non-enveloped double-stranded DNA virus of the family Adenoviridae that primarily infects the respiratory tract of dogs and is widely distributed in canine populations.
It is associated with infectious tracheobronchitis (kennel cough), commonly in combination with other respiratory pathogens, causing coughing and mild respiratory signs while predisposing to secondary infections.
Conventional methods such as virus isolation or antigen detection may be limited by sensitivity or turnaround time. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of CAdV-2 directly from respiratory samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
