Pathogen: Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV)
Description
BRSV is a RNA virus affecting domestic ruminants belonging to the bovine respiratory disease complex. Due to its relevant prevalence it is considered to be one of the major causes of financial losses. This virus is reported to incite disease in the lower respiratory tract predisposing cattle to suffer from secondary bacterial infections. BRSV has been isolated from either clinical animals or apparent healthy animals. Its persistence within a heard from outbreak to outbreak might be explained due to these subclinical or mild infections in adults which transmit the virus to younger susceptible cattle. Its diagnosis should be confirmed by a laboratory test, thus, qPCR is a powerful tool capable to detect low quantities of this agent.
