EXOone Brachyspira pilosicoli

Description

Brachyspira pilosicoli is an anaerobic intestinal spirochaete which has been isolated from the large intestine or faeces of several animal species such as pigs, chickens, dogs, water birds and human. This bacterium causes colonic spirochetosis which occurs after feco oral transmission.
This brachyspira is frequently found simultaneously with other spirochetes; some of them with reported pathological role like Brachyspira hyodisenteriae but also others with no clearly clinical significance such us Brachyspira intermedia, Brachyspira murdochi or Brachyspira innocens. In those cases detection through microbiological isolation and later identification through biochemical tests might be hard and inefficient. Therefore, a sensitive and specific molecular tool like qPCR allows a quick and precise detection of this bacteria.
