Pathogen: Brachyspira intermedia
Description
Brachyspira intermedia is reported to be present in feces from pigs, laying chickens and breeding hens. Although this brachyspira is not clearly pathogenic, there is some evidence to suggest that B. intermedia might be involved in diarrohoeic colitis in pigs as well as diarrhea in chickens and reduced egg production in hens.
Sometimes detection and subsequent identification of different species of Brachyspira through conventional culture methods is not easy and requires expertise technicians. Therefore this qPCR might help to an accurate, sensitive and rapid diagnosis of this worldwide pathogen.
