Pathogen: Brachyspira innocens
Description
Several species of Brachsypira are reported to colonize swine. The two main pathogenic species are B. hyodysenteriae and B. pilosicoli, the others which have been proposed as ocasionally pathogenic are B. intermedia and B. murdochii; nevertheless. B. innocens remains as a nonpathogenic commensal.
Sometimes detection and subsequent identification of different species of Brachyspira through conventional culture methods is not easy and requires expertise technicians. Therefore this qPCR might help to an accurate, sensitive and rapid diagnosis of these bacteria.
