Description

Brachypira hyodysenteriae is a spirocheta formerly called Serpulina which leads to Swine dysentery, a severe infectious disease characterized by mucohemorrhagic diarrhea. Growing pigs are the most affected, however, ocasionally occur in sows and their sucking piglets. Its genome is circular with approximately 2.5 Mbp. The high cost of disease is associated with high morbidity, decrease of growth rate and feed conversion efficiency as well as costs of continual in-feed medication.
