EXOone Brachyspira hampsonii

Description

Brachyspira hampsonii was firstly reported in America, however different outbreaks have been reported also in Canada and different countries in Europe. This brachsypira has not only been isolated from pigs and geese in North America, it was also been detected in pigs and wild birds in Europe.
B. hampsonii is reported to induce mucohemorrhagic diarrhea in pigs and it is indistinguishable from swine dysentery causing important economic looses due to moderate-to-high mortality rates, poor feed conversion, decreased growth rates and a high cost of antibiotic treatments.
As. B. hampsonii causes swine dysentery like B. hyodysenteriae, the use of a specific and sensitive molecular tool, allows an accurate and rapid detection of this pathogen.
