Several species of Brachsypira are reported to colonize birds. The two main pathogenic species are B. pilosicoli and B. intermedia, nevertheless, B. alvinipullii has been proposed as ocasionally pathogenic
Sometimes detection and subsequent identification of different species of Brachyspira through conventional culture methods is not easy and requires expertise technicians. Therefore this qPCR might help to an accurate, sensitive and rapid diagnosis of these bacteria.
