EXOone Avibacterium paragallinarum

Description

Avibacterium paragallinarum (previously called Haemophilus paragallinarum) is the etiological agent of infectious coriza of chickens, a highly contagious an acute respiratory disease. The disease can turn into a cronic respiratory disease when complicated by other pathogens, and occurs worlwide causing gratest economic losses associated to poor growth performance and marked reduction in egg production.

The traditional method for identification of coryza in chickens is the isolation and biochemical characterization of the agent, which requires experience and use of special artificial media. Recently, use of real-time PCR techniques has offered an increase in the sensitivity and specificity for the identification of this pathogen.
