Description
Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida is a Gram-negative bacterium widely distributed in aquatic environments and a primary pathogenic species affecting fish, particularly salmonids.
It is the etiological agent of furunculosis, a septicemic disease characterized by hemorrhages, skin ulcers and high mortality, causing significant economic losses in aquaculture.
Conventional identification based on culture may be time-consuming and affected by environmental conditions. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of A. salmonicida DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
