EXOone Atypical Porcine Pestivirus

Description

Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) is an enveloped single-stranded RNA virus of the family Flaviviridae that infects domestic pigs and wild boar populations worldwide.
APPV is primarily associated with congenital tremor type A-II in newborn piglets, a neurological condition characterized by tremors, difficulty standing and impaired suckling. Affected litters may show increased pre-weaning mortality and reduced productivity, leading to economic losses in swine production systems. Subclinical infections are common and may contribute to viral persistence within herds.
Conventional detection methods are limited by the absence of efficient virus isolation systems and the occurrence of subclinical infections. Real-time RT-PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of APPV RNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and surveillance.
