Description

Aeromonas hydrophila is a Gram-negative bacterium widely distributed in aquatic environments and capable of infecting a broad range of aquatic and terrestrial animals.
It is associated with motile aeromonad septicemia in fish, characterized by hemorrhages, ulcers and systemic infection, often leading to high mortality. It can also act as an opportunistic pathogen in other species, contributing to significant clinical and economic impact in aquaculture.
Conventional detection methods based on culture may be time-consuming and influenced by environmental factors. Real-time PCR enables rapid, sensitive and specific detection of A. hydrophila DNA directly from clinical samples, supporting analytical detection and monitoring.
